The role

You would be a central part of one of our cross-functional, internationally distributed teams. We expect our seniors to show direction in choice of technology and application architecture. A vital part of a team’s success is that everyone contributes, which means senior developers have a responsibility to help more junoir developers progress.

You will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with, and learn from, some very talented senior developers in Norway, many of whom are authorities in their field.

We encourage and expect our developers to contribute back to the open source community. ABC Tech developers have created and maintained several open source projects, and supplied numerous patches to others.

Who are you?

Successful candidates usually have several of these key abilities:

• Knows more than one programming language
• Knows at least one dynamic language
• Good communication skills
• Good command of the English language
• Ability to help others
• At least 3 years experience doing software development on a daily basis
• Open source contributions (like a github or bitbucket account with some repos, a CPAN profile page or some references)

Who are we?

ABC Tech, part of the Telenor Group, is a subsidiary of ABC Startsiden and Amedia, two mature (15+ years) Norwegian web development companies who are at the forefront of web development in Norway. ABC Tech has since 2010 developed products in close collaboration with both parent companies.

Our offices are located at Exchange Tower, which sits right on the corner of Asoke. Skywalk to BTS station Asoke, and easy access to MRT station Sukhumvit. We moved to larger and better equipped offices in 2012.

Technology and how we work

We like OOP (Object Oriented Programming), testing and MVC (Model, View, Controller). We’re also big fans of Agile. Our current process is KANBAN-based with some twists of Scrum. We try to keep it lightweight, while still providing the security we need. Other departments (like marketing) are currently adopting our KANBAN lifestyle, which is great to witness. We focus on improving ourselves where we can, and are always open to change and new ideas.

Our main language is Perl, but it is not a pre-requisite for applying. If you are a good developer we will teach you Perl. We also have some PHP and NodeJS. Some of the technologies we currently use and investigate are:

• Xapian and ElasticSearch
• Postgresql, MySQL and MongoDB
• PhantomJS, Selenium
• Perl: Moose, Catalyst, Mojolicious, DBIx::Class ++
